TOYOTA TUNDRA 2024 ENGINE
highThis is the second time this has happened to my truck. I was driving on the freeway at about 30â40 mph when the truck suddenly shut off. It was very scary because I was in moving traffic. This time, several warning lights came on, but I didnât have a chance to see what they were because I immediately started to panic. I had to bring the truck to a complete stop by applying the brakes and then shifting it into Park. Once I did that, I pressed the Start button, and the truck started back up. This incident has me very concerned because itâs now happened twice. Iâm worried that if it happens again, I could be rear-ended and seriously injured. I believe this is a significant safety issue that needs to be investigated and repaired as soon as possible. This is the second time this has happened to my truck. TOYOTA TUNDRA 2024 ENGINE
lowEngine shutdown while driving (was towing a travel trailer at the time) and after coasting to a stop the engine would not start. After 10 minutes the engine would start, but had loud knocking. My 2024 Tundra only had 31,726 miles and had to be towed to the dealership. Seems to be the known engine issues with the redesigned v6 engine. Tundra has been in the dealership for 4 weeks and was told it will require engine replacement, but do not know when the new engine will be shipped. While Toyota will perform the replacement free of charge, based on the hundreds of thousands of Tundra's being recalled for this very issue, I no longer trust this engine design (replaced or not).
TOYOTA TUNDRA 2024 FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING
low[XXX], [XXX] PM. 2024 Toyota Tundra Hybrid (i-FORCE MAX, V35A engine), 36k miles, original owner. Clear, dry pavement, evening daylight. Exiting [XXX] westbound at [XXX] , I merged into the far right lane at the second light for a right turn. A vehicle was stopped ahead at the light. Traveling 15-20 mph, I applied the brake for controlled deceleration. Right foot squarely on brake, not touching accelerator. Vehicle did not decelerate as expected. For 3-4 seconds the brake felt unresponsive â pedal felt soft and loose, lacking normal firmness. I pressed the brake fully to the floor. A dashboard warning appeared: âgas and brake pedals are being pressed simultaneously.â I was not, and had not been, touching the accelerator. I then heard engine RPM increase audibly, consistent with an acceleration command, while my foot remained fully on the brake. I felt forward thrust working against my braking. The warning cleared and brakes engaged. Vehicle stopped approximately half a car length from the vehicle ahead, narrowly avoiding rear-end collision. Automatic Emergency Braking did NOT engage despite conditions clearly meeting its criteria â stationary vehicle directly ahead, my vehicle approaching at 15-20 mph with no observable deceleration for 3-4 seconds. No collision warning sounded; no auto-braking intervened. Notably, this same AEB has previously engaged falsely in benign situations (e.g., backing near low vegetation), suggesting reliability/calibration issues. Prior manufacturer notice: On [XXX] at 15,412 miles, I reported to Camelback Toyota, Phoenix (RO #[XXX], on file): âvehicle lurches forward going from reverse to drive (now more consistent)â â dispositioned by tech 10210 as âvehicle is operating to spec,â no diagnosis performed. Same RO documented ârattling in neutral/at stopâ â dispositioned âunable to duplicate.â Toyota was on notice of throttle-response symptoms 21 months before this safety event.
