Mazda is making significant strides in the European electric vehicle landscape with the introduction of the enhanced 2027 Mazda6e. This updated model arrives with a substantial overhaul, focusing on a more potent and efficient powertrain, expanded trim options, and refined driver assistance technologies. While US enthusiasts might have seen a modest price adjustment for the MX-5 Miata, European buyers are set to receive a more transformative upgrade.
The Mazda6e, a nameplate familiar to some, has its roots in the Mazda EZ-6, a mid-size sedan produced in China since 2024 through a joint venture with Changan Mazda. It shares its underlying EPA platform with the Deepal L07 liftback. For the European market, the model was rebranded as the Mazda6e and first showcased at the 2025 Brussels Motor Show. It initially went on sale last year, with the European version exclusively offered as a battery-electric vehicle, unlike its Chinese counterpart which also features an extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) option.
For the 2027 model year, the Mazda6e is poised to impress with a newly integrated powertrain. This updated system boasts a substantial 78 kWh Lithium Iron Phosphate battery, capable of supporting rapid charging at up to 200 kW. This significant enhancement allows for an impressive WLTP-certified range of up to 560 kilometers, or approximately 348 miles, on a single charge. Beyond the battery, the powertrain itself has been optimized for performance, delivering 190 kW (equivalent to 258 PS or 255 hp) of power. Drivers will also notice improved acceleration and regenerative braking capabilities.
Mazda is also introducing a new flagship trim, the Homura Plus. This grade is designed to offer a sportier aesthetic, featuring gloss black accents on the lower body moldings of the front and rear bumpers, as well as side skirts. The interior receives a premium treatment with black Nappa leather and Suede Cloth Woven Fabric upholstery accented by red stitching. Further enhancing the sporty feel, the cabin includes mesh-pattern decoration on the dashboard and doors, a black headliner, and an electric roof sunshade.
The Takumi Plus trim level also sees updates, offering buyers a choice between two interior configurations featuring Nappa Leather and Suede Cloth Woven Fabric. In addition to the previously available Tan interior, a new Warm Beige option is now on offer. The standard Takumi grade will continue to feature its Black Maztex interior, with the Warm Beige Maztex option being discontinued for this trim.
Driver confidence and comfort are bolstered by advancements in the Advanced Driver Assist System (ADAS). The Cruising & Traffic Support (CTS) function has been refined and is now operational at speeds up to 160 kph (99 mph). Furthermore, the Lane Keep Assist system has been tuned to provide smoother and more natural steering assistance. European customers can expect to see the 2027 Mazda6e arriving at dealerships starting in November 2026.
