While Mazda continues to roll out new electric vehicles and updates across its global lineup, a talented digital artist has been busy imagining the return of a beloved, albeit defunct, model: the Premacy minivan. Known as the Mazda5 in North America, this versatile people-mover has been given a hypothetical electric makeover by the CGI artist known as “Theottle.” This imaginative concept breathes new life into the Premacy, suggesting a potential future for the segment.
The digital artist’s vision sees the resurrected Premacy reimagined as a fully electric vehicle. To achieve this, “Theottle” has used the proportions of the classic Renault Scenic as a foundation and then applied the modern design language of the all-new Mazda CX-60e. The result is a striking, hypothetical fourth-generation Premacy that blends nostalgic minivan practicality with contemporary Mazda aesthetics. This concept is particularly targeted at the European market, where the artist is a self-proclaimed “longtime fan” of the versatile people mover.
This virtual revival comes at an interesting time for Mazda. The company recently made adjustments to its US MX-5 Miata pricing, increasing it by $300 and incorporating minor updates. In the UK, the 2027 model year will see the discontinuation of the 2.0-liter engine for the MX-5 due to evolving regulations. Meanwhile, Mazda’s electric offensive continues in Europe with the introduction of the CX-60e, boasting an impressive 300-mile (483 km) driving range. Further bolstering their EV efforts, the 2027 Mazda6e sibling has received a significant upgrade in the form of a new 78-kWh battery pack capable of charging at up to 200 kW, alongside other enhancements.
Even Japan has seen a special release, with the iconic MX-5 roadster receiving a limited-edition “Sunflower Yellow FSW Ver.2” for the 2027 model year, with only six examples available through four dealerships. This flurry of activity, from new EV launches to special editions and market-specific adjustments, underscores Mazda’s dynamic approach to its global portfolio. The hypothetical electric Premacy, brought to life through CGI, serves as a fascinating glimpse into what might be, tapping into the growing resurgence of interest in the minivan segment both in North America and internationally. The new Mazda CX-60e, for context, is a mid-size crossover SUV developed through the Changan Mazda joint venture, with its platform shared by the Deepal S07, much like the Mazda6e or EZ-6 shares its underpinnings with the Deepal L07 liftback.
