While Ford’s official stance on AI-generated concepts remains firm – recently dismissing an AI-crafted Fathom rendering – the automotive world is buzzing with speculation and creative reimagining. This excitement isn’t just focused on upcoming trucks like the 2027 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra 1500, whose pricing is now public, sparking comparisons with the 2027 Ford F-150. There’s also the ongoing intrigue surrounding General Motors’ new 8.3-liter Mongoose turbo-diesel V8, a name seemingly chosen to playfully challenge Ford’s Scorpion engine, hinting at the natural predator-prey relationship in the animal kingdom.

Amidst this flurry of automotive news, digital artists are keeping the spirit of automotive innovation alive. One such visionary is Jim, known online as “jlord8,” a virtual artist who delights in transforming automotive concepts through CGI. Jim’s latest project is a hypothetical revival of a nameplate from Ford’s past: the Contour. Although Ford currently offers only one passenger car in America, the S650 seventh-generation Mustang, the Blue Oval once boasted a much broader sedan lineup, with many names now relegated to nostalgic recall.

The Ford Contour, alongside its Mercury Mystique counterpart, served as the North American iteration of the first-generation European Ford Mondeo. Produced in the United States and Mexico from 1995 to 2000, these models replaced the Ford Tempo and Mercury Topaz. They shared the Ford CDW27 platform with the Mondeo Mk1 and were eventually succeeded by the Ford Fusion after the 2006 model year.

Jim’s inspiration for a reborn Contour stemmed from a rather unconventional thought: “Ever wondered what an Explorer ST would look like as a sedan? Just me? Cool.” This whimsical idea led to his digital creation, which envision the Ford Contour ST as a sedan incorporating the design language of the current Ford Explorer ST. The result, according to the artist, bears a resemblance to contemporary Japanese sedans, perhaps evoking the lines of a Nissan Altima.
