The Lexus NX, a key player in the premium compact SUV segment, is rolling out with a substantial mid-cycle refresh that touches nearly every aspect of the vehicle. This update arrives just five years after the second generation debuted in the summer of 2021, demonstrating Lexus’ commitment to keeping its popular model at the forefront of innovation. While the NX initially entered the market in late 2014 as a more accessible option positioned between the UX and LBX, this latest refresh promises a significant leap forward for the European market, where the NX holds considerable importance.

Lexus states the brand has elevated the NX “to the next level in all aspects,” citing improvements across exterior and interior design, powertrains, ride and handling, safety, multimedia, and the overall driving experience. These coordinated upgrades aim to enhance the vehicle where it matters most to drivers.

Visually, the refreshed NX sports a revised front fascia featuring a striking frameless spindle grille and updated LED headlights. The rear receives a distinctive double-L style for its LED taillights. For enthusiasts, the F Sport trim returns with exclusive enhancements, including new 20-inch aero slim wheels, vibrant red brake calipers, and a sophisticated piano black finish on components like the roof rails, spoiler, lower bumper, and side sills. Buyers can also choose from new exterior paint options: Sonic Platinum and Sonic Tellus, with Titanium Carbide Grey reserved for the NX F Sport.

The interior undergoes a more dramatic transformation, drawing inspiration from the latest ES sedan and the upcoming TZ luxury SUV. The compact Lexus CUV now boasts a completely redesigned instrument panel, new central and overhead consoles, and updated upper door trims. Central to the cabin is a new, expansive 12.3-inch combi-meter display and a larger 14-inch multimedia touchscreen. Adding to the sophisticated feel are the new Responsive Hidden Switches, which are capacitive controls that elegantly illuminate as the driver approaches.

Under the hood, the NX embraces the sixth generation of Lexus’ hybrid technology. Two distinct powertrains are now available: the familiar NX 350h and the new NX 450h+ plug-in hybrid. The standard hybrid model, offered in both front-wheel and all-wheel drive configurations, utilizes a 2.5-liter inline-four engine. While the power output remains consistent at 146 kW (199 ps / 196 hp), the updated system significantly reduces battery weight, resulting in quicker acceleration. The 0-100 kph sprint now takes 7.7 seconds for FWD models and 7.3 seconds for AWD variants. Furthermore, the towing capacity has been boosted to 1,500 kg (3,307 pounds).

The NX 450h+ plug-in hybrid receives a substantial upgrade with a new lithium-ion battery that increases capacity by 30%, from 18 to 23 kWh. This larger battery contributes to a notable increase in maximum combined output, now reaching 307 ps (303 hp), an eight percent improvement. The 0-62 mph (100 kph) acceleration is now achieved in a swift 6.1 seconds.

A groundbreaking addition for the NX 450h+ is its compatibility with DC fast charging, a standard feature across all trims. This allows for a rapid 10-80% charge in just 30 minutes. The electric-only driving range has also been extended, now exceeding 100 km (62 miles). Across Europe, the new Lexus NX will be offered in four distinct equipment styles: Business, Executive, Luxury, and F Sport. All models come equipped with new “all-weather” headlights, power-adjustable and heated front seats, a heated and power-adjustable steering wheel, a power back door, and the latest iteration of Lexus Safety System+ active safety and driver assistance features.
