Mercedes-AMG has unveiled a truly exceptional creation, the CLE 646 Spezialanfertigung, a limited-edition model from its ultra-exclusive Mythos series. While the German term “Spezialanfertigung” simply denotes a “special edition,” this vehicle represents a significant departure, offering a level of performance and exclusivity that is sure to make rivals like the BMW M4 green with envy.
This handcrafted masterpiece, produced in Affalterbach, is so highly sought after that it was completely sold out prior to its official debut, rendering pricing and production numbers largely academic for potential buyers. The CLE 646 boasts a striking widebody design, a newly developed coilover suspension system, and meticulously engineered aerodynamics. Powering this beast is AMG’s formidable 4.0-liter V8 biturbo engine, unleashed to deliver an astonishing 637 horsepower, channeled exclusively to the rear wheels.
The “646” in its name refers to the 646 metric horsepower (ps) or 475 kW it produces. Engineers have also worked diligently to shed approximately 375 pounds (170 kg) from the vehicle, contributing to what is described as an “uncompromisingly direct driving experience.” This collector’s dream, rumored to command a price tag around $800,000, follows in the exclusive footsteps of the Mercedes-AMG PureSpeed. However, its production run is even more restricted, limited to a mere 30 examples compared to the PureSpeed’s 250 units.
For those who find themselves excluded by such stringent production quotas, a digital solution has emerged. Virtual artist Sugar Chow, widely known as “sugardesign_1” on social media, has applied his imaginative talents to envision a captivating Shooting Brake variant of the Mercedes-AMG CLE 646. This digital rendering allows enthusiasts to experience an expanded take on the Mythos model without compromising the exclusivity of the original coupe for its fortunate owners.
The virtual CLE 646 Shooting Brake retains the hardcore characteristics of its coupe sibling. The proposed modifications are subtle, primarily involving a slightly more substantial profile due to a less aggressively sloped roofline. This design tweak also liberates additional trunk space, perfect for accommodating essentials like racing helmets, safety gear, or tracksuits – an ideal blend of track prowess and practical utility.
This unofficial, hypothetical Mercedes-AMG CLE 646 Shooting Brake raises an intriguing question: could Mercedes-Benz potentially expand its ultra-exclusive special edition lineup with a hot hatch-like body style? The digital realm certainly suggests the possibility, offering a tantalizing glimpse into what could be.
