When you think of camping trailers, you likely picture something substantial. However, the new Micro from German specialist First Camper challenges that notion, offering an incredibly compact yet surprisingly well-equipped living space for two.
Despite its diminutive size, the Micro manages to pack in a comfortable double bed and a dedicated couch for relaxing, making it a practical solution for couples. Storage is cleverly integrated throughout, and a well-appointed exterior kitchen is a welcome surprise, adding functionality without compromising the trailer’s toy-like aesthetic.
First Camper, a company dedicated exclusively to micro trailers, was founded in 2020. While their initial plans were disrupted by global events, they officially launched into business post-crisis. The Micro represents their smallest offering to date, a testament to their focus on innovative compact designs.
The brainchild of designers and builders Mona and Sebastian, the Micro was showcased at the recent 2026 Dusseldorf Caravan Salon. The duo primarily utilizes cargo trailers from Tomplan Trailers, offering them for sale or rent. Their target audience is those who value convenience and affordability over luxurious, home-like amenities in their recreational vehicles.
The result is an undeniably adorable and remarkably functional trailer. It serves as a wheeled shelter, getting you off the ground and protected from the elements, ready for whatever adventures await.
It’s important to note that the Micro is not designed to be a full-fledged mobile home. Its modest dimensions are a key feature: a total length of just 3.7 meters (12 feet), a width of 1.57 meters (5 feet), and a height of 1.93 meters (6.3 feet). The trailer is built on a KNOTT drawbar and chassis, featuring an aluminum frame and sandwich composite panels with 30 mm (1.18 inches) of insulation for efficient climate control.
Storage solutions are a highlight. When the bed is in its night configuration, one side remains accessible for stowing gear. Additionally, large drawers are built into the base of the couch. The rear door opens to reveal a spacious drawer perfect for kitchen essentials, alongside a slide-out counter that can accommodate a gas-cartridge cooker.
A small counter positioned at the head of the bed offers convenient storage for personal items like glasses or phones.
The unladen weight of the basic Micro is an astonishing 299 kg (659 lbs). This featherlight construction means it can be towed by virtually any vehicle and is easily maneuvered by hand, making campsite placement a breeze.
The display unit at the Dusseldorf show featured several optional upgrades, transforming the Micro into a more complete camping solution. This included a braked axle with shock absorbers, allowing for highway speeds of up to 100 kph (62 mph). Further additions comprised custom cabinetry, felt-covered sidewalls for improved acoustics and insulation, a railing system, a rooftop tent, a dual-bike rack on the tongue, forced-air ventilation, and a second entryway on the curbside.
While the equipped Micro weighed in at 420 kg (926 lbs) empty, it remained exceptionally lightweight and manageable. The maximum permissible weight is 750 kg (1,653 lbs), which allows for considerable cargo before requiring a specialized driving license or a more robust towing vehicle, ensuring ample flexibility for travelers.
